Tap tap!

A fast-paced reflex game where hand coordination and speed decide the winner.

Min. 3 Players
Difficulty: Slightly tricky
Mar 10, 2026

1. How to play the game

  • Everyone sits closely around a table in a circle.
  • Players place both hands flat on the table, but with a twist: you cross arms with your neighbors so that a person's hands are never next to each other.
  • From left to right in front of you, the hand layout should be: Your Left HandLeft Neighbor's Right HandRight Neighbor's Left HandYour Right Hand. This creates a complete, interwoven circle of hands.
  • One person starts the game by tapping the table once. The turn passes to the very next hand in the physical circle (initially counter-clockwise).
  • The Core Rules: A single tap passes the turn to the next hand in the current direction. A double tap (tapping twice quickly) instantly reverses the direction of play.
  • If a player taps out of turn, hesitates too long, or completely forgets to tap, that returning hand is eliminated and must be removed from the table.
  • If a player loses both hands, they are eliminated from the game.
  • When hands are eliminated, remaining players slide closer or adjust arms so that no one's two hands are ever physically next to each other.
  • Play continues at a very fast pace until only one person remains as the winner!

2. Example gameplay

The Setup: Alice, Bob, and Charlie are sitting at a table with their arms crossed over each other.

  • The Start: The physical hand order on the table is swapped to alternate: Alice's Left, Bob's Right, Charlie's Left, Alice's Right, etc. Alice's left hand starts with one tap. Play is moving right.
  • The Pass: The very next hand on the table is Bob's Right hand. Bob taps his right hand once.
  • The Reversal: Next is Charlie's left hand. He decides to be tricky and double-taps (tap tap!). Play instantly reverses direction back to the left.
  • The Penalty: Because play reversed, the turn goes back to Bob's right hand. However, Alice wasn't paying attention and taps her right hand (which is further down the circle) instead!
  • The Elimination: Alice made a mistake by tapping out of turn. Her right hand is eliminated and she must pull it off the table. She's now playing with only her left hand. The group readjusts the circle, and play resumes!
