1. How to play the game
- Players sit in a circle and take turns counting out loud, one number per person, starting from 1.
- The goal is to reach 21. Whoever says "21" gets to make up a fun rule for one number — what to do or say instead of it.
- After the rule is set, the game starts again from 1. Now everyone must remember the rule and apply it when that number comes up.
- If a player forgets a rule (says the number instead of doing the action, or does the wrong action), they've failed. The next player restarts the count from 1.
- Each time someone reaches 21, they add another rule for a new number. Rules stack up — all previous rules must still be followed!
- The game ends when all 21 numbers have a rule assigned and one full successful round is completed without any mistakes.
2. Example rules
Rules can be anything fun and memorable. Here are some ideas:
- 🐑 Instead of 7 — jump up and sit back down
- 😴 Instead of 2 — pretend you are falling asleep
- 🔄 Instead of 6 — say "9"
- 🤫 Instead of 13 — put your finger to your lips and whisper "shh"
- 🐔 Instead of 17 — flap your arms like a chicken
3. Example gameplay
The Setup: Alice, Bob, and Charlie play together.
- Round 1: They count: "1, 2, 3... 21!" Charlie says 21 and makes the first rule: "Instead of 7, jump!"
- Round 2: They count again — everything goes well until Bob says "7" instead of jumping. Bob fails! Alice, who is next, restarts from 1.
- Later: They successfully complete a round. Alice says 21 this time and adds a second rule: "Instead of 3, say 'banana'". Now two rules are active.
- End goal: The game ends once all 21 numbers have rules and the group survives one complete flawless round from 1 to 21!
